Unlike other treatments that may require more downtime, the Cosmelan process is relatively quick and convenient. It consists of two phases, the first of which is an in-clinic peel that lasts approximately 25 to 30 minutes, the second being the application of a mask that you wear at home for several hours or overnight. You may experience some minor redness and flaking over the following days after the peel, however, these effects disappear soon after.

We also strongly recommend the following measures:
- Avoid UV or sun exposure 24 hours prior to treatment.
- Depending on your skin type and concerns, we may recommend a pre-skincare regimen to optimise the effects of Cosmelan. This regimen may include specific cleansers, serums, or creams.
- Inform your healthcare provider about any allergies, medical conditions, or medications you currently take.
- Discontinue using retinoids, glycolic acid products, and other harsh skincare treatments at least a week or more before your scheduled Cosmelan treatment. Always follow your dermatologist's specific instructions.
Instructions Post-Treatment
Post-treatment care for your skin is vitally important. We recommend the following steps to follow:
- Follow the at-home skincare regime provided to you by your skin therapist.
- Minimise direct sun exposure, especially during the initial weeks after the treatment when your skin is most susceptible to UV damage.
- Strict UV protection is crucial after Cosmelan. Apply sunscreen with a high SPF (30 or higher) every morning, even on overcast days. Reapply sunscreen frequently. Wear a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses when outdoors.
- Do not pick, scratch or scrub the treated skin, as this can cause scarring and disrupt the healing process.
- Maintain hydration to support regeneration and skin recovery.
- Avoid using harsh skincare products, like alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), beta hydroxy acids (BHAs), and retinoids, until your dermatologist advises it is safe to do so.
- Attend scheduled follow-up appointments with your healthcare provider to monitor your progress and address any concerns or questions.
- Be patient with the process. It may take several weeks to months to see the full results of Cosmelan treatment.
